The Birthday cake...

Another year gone by,
One more cake along the way.
Just one day for all the flashbacks,
The rest just a haze of grey.

Another candle blown off,
As I move along.
A new knife to cut away the pain,
A new beginning, with the same birthday song?

Blow away the people that hold you back,
Cut across the thick black night.
Free yourself from the binding cream,
Its time to get it right.

For every day is special,
Light it all along.
Don’t need a reminder from a birthday cake,
Neither from the birthday song.

The lesser you care,
The happier you are.
Enjoy your own company,
Don’t let yourself wander too far.

The candles will burn out,
Flickering to indicate that its about time.
Pick out the nuts and the sweets,
Choose your perfect rhyme.

So raise a toast for now,
Raise it for every day.
This one is gone,
The entire year is on its way.
